How beautiful would the world be, if people weren t biased and judgmental? A world where tags and labels would be restricted only to products and where love would be seen in its purest form. A Utopian world, indeed, right? This is what actress Sonam Kapoor has in her mind too, as she is all set to present to the world the story of a woman who falls in love with another woman. Her character Sweety Choudhary's struggle in accepting her own identity and making her family see the depth of her emotions is what Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga is all about. For such a special movie, which is also the first mainstream commercial film to have sensitively addressed the issue of alternate sexuality, it was paramount that we had a special interaction with Sonam herself. So, BollywoodLife got a same-sex couple, Dharti Patel and Shubh Patil, to have a chat with the actress.
During the interaction, the three shared moments from their lives in a light-hearted, fun way and made us realise that the actress had really done her homework quite well before playing the character. Sonam shared how the confrontation scene from the film, when she speaks with her father about her true sexuality, was the toughest one to shoot. To this, the couple shared their own coming out experiences. On a lighter note, Sonam also revealed that she would be hit on by girls quite often before she got married to Anand Ahuja. However, post the wedding, those incidents have reduced.
Here s the heart-warming conversation that Sonam had with the two beautiful girls...
It is endearing to watch it and we can only hope for a world like this, wherein we are not labeled and categorized for our personal choices and preferences. Helmed by debutant director Shelly Chopra Dhar, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga opens in theatres today.
