The Wikipedia article of the day for August 1, 2020 is Brownsea Island Scout camp.
A boys' camping event at the site of the Brownsea Island Scout camp from 1 to 8 August 1907 is regarded as the origin of the worldwide Scouting movement. Held on Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour, southern England, it was organised by Robert Baden-Powell (pictured) to test his ideas for the book Scouting for Boys. Boys from different social backgrounds participated in activities themed around camping, observation, woodcraft, chivalry, lifesaving and patriotism. Up to the early 1930s, camping by Boy Scouts continued on Brownsea Island. In 1962, the island became a nature conservation area owned by the National Trust. The following year, Olave Baden-Powell reopened the island to the public, and in 1964 a formal 50-acre (200,000 m2) Scout campsite was established there. In 1973, a Jamboree was held on the island for 600 Scouts from seven nations. The worldwide centenary of Scouting was celebrated at the camp on 1 August 2007, the 100th anniversary of the start of the first encampment.

The Wikipedia article of the day for July 31, 2020 is Rodrigues rail.
The Rodrigues rail (Erythromachus leguati) was a flightless bird endemic to the Mascarene island of Rodrigues, east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. The rail was described as having grey plumage, a red beak and legs, and a naked red patch around the eye. The bird fed on tortoise eggs. It was described as being attracted to red objects, which humans exploited while hunting it. The Rodrigues rail is believed to have become extinct in the mid-18th century because of predation by introduced cats and destruction of its habitat by tortoise hunters. The bird was first documented from life by two contemporaneous accounts, first by François Leguat, a French Huguenot refugee marooned on Rodrigues in 1691, and then by Julien Tafforet, marooned on the island in 1726. Subfossil remains (pictured) were later discovered and connected with the old accounts in 1874, and the species was named E. leguati in Leguat's honour.

Throwback Thursday: This UNSEEN picture of birthday boy Sonu Sood with his father is all things ‘love’

Bollywood actor Sonu Sood, who has become a real-life hero for his noble work during the tough times of the coronavirus-induced lockdown, is celebrating his 47th birthday today. While the actor has impressed us with his performances in films like Dabangg, Jodha Akbar, Simmba and others, Sonu has been termed as a 'messiah' on social media because of the amount of aid he provided migrant workers to reach their hometowns by arranging transportation, food and other essentials in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis. While we are already seeing wonderful wishers from his fans on Twitter and Instagram, we've also stumbled upon an unseen throwback pic of the philanthropist with his father and by looking at that picture, the respect for Sonu in our eyes has risen manifold. The actor recently revealed that he is set to come up with a book, where he will share his experiences of helping migrant workers during the pandemic situation. Talking about it, Sonu said, "The past three and half months have been a kind of a life-changing experience for me, living with the migrants for 16 to 18 hours a day and sharing their pain. When I go to see them off as they begin their journey back home, my heart is filled with joy and relief. Seeing the smiles on their faces, the tears of happiness in their eyes has been the most special experience of my life, and I pledged that I'll keep on working to send them back to their homes until the last migrant reaches his village, to his loved ones."

He added, "I believe I came to this city for this -- it was my purpose. I want to thank god for making me a catalyst in helping the migrants. While my heart beats in Mumbai, after this movement I feel a part of me lives in the villages of UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, Uttarakhand and various other states, where I have now found new friends and made deep connections. I have decided to put these experiences, stories that are embedded in my soul forever, in a book."

On the work front, Sonu Sood will next be seen in Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt and Manushi Chillar starrer Prithviraj. Talking about the film, Sonu had earlier disclosed in a promotional event, "It's one of the most expensive films coming out this year, during Diwali. Akshay and I have worked together in three to four films, and all those films were huge hits. So, we hope to recreate that magic in this film, too." The film is directed by Dr Chandrapraksh Dwivedi and produced by Aditya Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Films.

The Wikipedia article of the day for July 30, 2020 is Ceilings of the Natural History Museum, London.
The decorated ceilings of the Natural History Museum in South Kensington, London, were designed by the museum's architect Alfred Waterhouse, and were unveiled at the building's opening in 1881. The ceiling of the large Central Hall (pictured) consists of 162 panels, 108 of which depict plants considered significant to the history of the museum, to the British Empire or to the museum's visitors. The remaining 54 are highly stylised decorative botanical paintings. The ceiling of the smaller North Hall consists of 36 panels, 18 of which depict plants growing in the British Isles. Both ceilings make extensive use of gilding for visual effect. Built of lath and plaster to save costs, the ceilings are unusually fragile and require extensive maintenance and restoration. Since 2016 the skeleton of a blue whale has been suspended from the ceiling of the Central Hall.

Eris is the second-largest known dwarf planet in the Solar System, slightly smaller by volume than the dwarf planet Pluto, although it is 27 percent more massive. Discovered in January 2005 by a team based at Palomar Observatory, it was named after Eris, the Greek goddess of strife and discord. The ninth-most-massive object directly orbiting the Sun, Eris is the largest object in the Solar System that has not been visited by a spacecraft. It is a member of a high-eccentricity population known as the scattered disk and has one known moon, Dysnomia. It is about 96 astronomical units (14.4 billion kilometres; 8.9 billion miles) from the Sun, roughly three times as far away as Pluto. Except for some long-period comets, Eris and Dysnomia were the most distant known natural objects in the Solar System until 2018 VG18 was discovered in 2018. Observations of a stellar occultation by Eris in 2010 showed that its diameter was 2,326 ± 12 kilometers (1,445.3 ± 7.5 mi).

Elasmosaurus was a large marine reptile in the order Plesiosauria. The genus lived about 80.5 million years ago, during the Late Cretaceous. The first specimen was sent to the American paleontologist Edward Drinker Cope after its discovery in 1867 near Fort Wallace, Kansas. Only one incomplete skeleton is definitely known, consisting of a fragmentary skull, the spine, and the pectoral and pelvic girdles, and a single species, E. platyurus, is recognized today. Measuring 10.3 meters (34 ft) long, the genus had a streamlined body with paddle-like limbs or flippers, a short tail, and a small, slender, triangular head. With a neck around 7.1 meters (23 ft) long, Elasmosaurus was one of the longest-necked animals to have lived, with the largest number of neck vertebrae known, 72. It probably ate small fish and marine invertebrates, seizing them with long teeth. Elasmosaurus is known from the Pierre Shale formation, which represents marine deposits from the Western Interior Seaway.

A few days back, there was news that actor Ritvik Arora, who plays the character of Kunal in Shaheer Sheikh is not keen on resuming the shoot and now the producer of the show, Rajan Shahi has confirmed that he is out of the show because of his unprofessional behaviour. Talking to ETimes, Rajan said, "A few weeks ago our supervising producer Vivek Jain called Ritvik. He said he could start shooting from July 1, but we should first speak to his father. That itself was unprofessional because he's the actor, who has signed a contract with us. Yet, Vivek called his father, who asked for a raise in his remuneration, almost double of what he was being paid, and also a minimum 25-day work guarantee. What's really wrong is the way he communicated it saying, 'Don't even think of calling back if you want to negotiate'. After this, Vivek reached out to Ritvik again, and even this time, he told us to speak to his father."

The producer further said, "Sometimes an actor or a technician may have some concerns and want a change in certain clauses. These things happen, but they have to be discussed proactively. I have always been approachable. But for someone to say that don't even think of calling if you want to negotiate... negotiate what? You are going against the contract! When they were asked to send an email on this, they started dilly-dallying. A few days later, Ritvik's father started sending apology messages for laying down those conditions and tried to blame things on the COVID situation. However, we have a record of all communication exchanged."

Rajan said that if Ritvik apologises in writing, than he might get another chance. "We have been very accommodating with actors who have genuine COVID concerns. If an actor wants to opt out of a show, we totally understand. But the behaviour of unprofessional people, who hold a production house to ransom, should be called out. In the case of Ritvik, there was a problem even last year when he didn't turn up for shoot for a day and he was not reachable on phone, and we suffered losses. He apologised later in writing and we gave him another chance then," said the producer.

On the other hand, Ritvik said that COVID-19 was the main reason he didn't resume the shoot. "My uncle passed away recently because of coronavirus, so obviously, everyone in my family is worried. Then we learnt about actor Parth Samthaan testing positive, which further fuelled their apprehensions."

The actor also responded on fee hike by his father and said, "I first received a call from Rajan Sir in May, asking me when I would be able to resume the shoot. I informed him about my uncle passing away and said that I needed some time. I asked my father to take the communication ahead with the production house, as I was deeply affected by my uncle's death. A few days later, Vivekji called me, and I told my father to talk to him and decide whether I should go to Mumbai to shoot. I am their only son and they were anxious because I would be living alone in Mumbai. I didn't know about the conversation that transpired between my father and them. After I learnt about it, I told my father that he was wrong in asking for a pay hike. However, he didn't ask them to double my money, he asked for a minor hike thinking that it would serve as a deterrent and they wouldn't call me to Mumbai. My father was willing to send me to shoot from July 1, as he thought things would get better. He called them several times to clear the air, but our calls went unanswered. I asked him to apologise through messages and on mail. In his apology, my father stated that it wasn't about the money, but about my safety and well-being. I totally understand their decision to not respond. However, I can vouch that my father wasn't rude, nor did he tell them to not call him for negotiation. In fact, I received a mail from them on July 7 asking me when I would return. I didn't want to commit to a date as I wasn't sure if I would be able to stick to it, owing to the ongoing crisis. So, I wrote a mail stating that as of now, I don't plan to return to Mumbai. There is absolutely no reason for me to leave the show because it's such a good opportunity. This is a case of miscommunication and misunderstanding."

Karishma Tanna on winning Khatron Ke Khiladi 10: Maybe God wanted me to win the ‘real’ reality show

Yesterday, we saw the grand finale of Rohit Shetty's stunt reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi season 10, where Karishma Tanna defeated Karan Patel and Dharmesh Yelande to bag the winner's trophy. Talking about her win, the popular actress told Mumbai Mirror, "I have been in the film industry for a while now and the closest I ever came to winning is being adjudged first runners-up. Maybe God wanted me to win the 'real' reality show." Talking about the celebration, she added, "Since I couldn't call my friends to celebrate, my neighbours brought me cake and some amazing food."

All the episodes except the was shot before the lockdown. When asked whether there was any pressure in that period, to which she replied, "More than me, my mother was desperately waiting for the result, praying every day that I win. She was the one who pushed me, else I wouldn't have done the show." Speaking on stunts, Karishma said, "When I thought some task was doable, I failed at that. Everyone had their good days, but overall Dharmesh, Tejasswi (Prakash) and to some extent Karan, were very consistent."

Speaking about the host and blockbuster director Rohit Shetty, the actress said, "He had decided that he would help me conquer all of my fears and by the end of the season, he succeeded. Now, I am no longer scared of snakes." In the last week, Ekta Kapoor dropped a major hint of Karishma Tanna winning the show, where the TV Czarina shared a congratulatory post and wrote, "This is a congratulations to Karishma from us". To which Karishma reposted the video on her profile and replied, "Thank U baby @ek_ek_ekoo Love u?".

Akshay Kumar, Dhanush and Sara Ali Khan's Atrangi Re will resume its shoot from THIS date

As the unlock phase has begun, the Khiladi of Bollywood, Akshay Kumar has taken the decision to start the shooting of his projects. While in August he is flying to London for Bell Bottom, the latest updates says that he will resume the filming of Atrangi Re along with costars Dhanush and Sara Ali Khan in October with a three month schedule in Madhurai, Delhi and Mumbai. Confirming the news, director Aanand L Rai told Mumbai Mirror, "Yes, I'm really excited to start the next schedule planned for October in Madurai. I have the full support of the cast and crew. We are hoping that things will improve by the time we are ready to shoot."

The filmmaker, who is expecting to end the shoot by the end of 2020 said, "Rather, during the lockdown, I got a lot of time to prep for the upcoming schedule." He further said, We will be filming outdoors, but it's going to be a very organised shoot... We will try to wrap up in the minimum time possible." Earlier there were speculations that Khiladi Kumar is doing a cameo in the film. Director Aanand L Rai had denied that news and told the tabloid, that it is a very special character, which is important for the narrative. "It's not a cameo, but a very special character that is important to the narrative."

The film is co-written by his frequent collaborator Himanshu Sharma. The music of Atrangi will be composed by Academy Award winner AR Rahman while the lyrics will penned by Irshad Kamil. While the film is scheduled to release during the Valentine's Day weekend of 2021, we might see a shift in date due to the pandemic crisis of coronavirus. Actors like Dilip Joshi, Disha Vakani, Munmun Dutta and others on the show enjoy a huge fan-following. For many, Dilip Joshi aka Jethalal is the best comic actor on Indian TV. Osbert Lancaster (4 August 1908 – 27 July 1986) was an English cartoonist, architectural historian and stage designer. He became known in the 1930s for his books on architecture, aiming to amuse the general reader while demystifying the subject. Several of the terms he coined as labels for architectural styles such as "Pont Street Dutch" have gained common usage, and his books have continued to be regarded as important works of reference on the subject. Sushant Singh Rajput's demise more than a month ago still hurts the same as that day. Many are still recuperating for the shock. With the recent release of his last film, Dil Bechara the pain has intensified but seeing the celebration of his life, his being and his film, it has surely cheered us a little. His switch from television to Hindi films had been a huge one and he gave various hits since his debut with Kai Po Che. Sushant Singh Rajput's Drive costar, Jacqueline Fernandez is still not able to come to terms with his passing and is still trying to accept the bitter truth each day.

Jacqueline, in a recent session of India Today's e-Mind Rocks 2020, opened up on Sushant Singh Rajput's demise, her bond with the actor and her struggle with anxiety issues. "It's very difficult for me to digest that he's gone. When I go online, I still see so many videos and pictures of us together. The other day I saw a video of us rehearsing for a show that we were doing together. I don't know how someone who I would have never guessed in my wildest dreams would have wanted to take his life. Whenever we worked together, I was the one who would say Sushant I'm struggling with this," the actress said.

Jacqueline opened up on her bond and how the Shuddh Desi Romance actor would introduce her to new authors, science and talk about everything with so much passion. "We bonded very well. We did a film together, but we have done stage shows appearances. We have travelled together. I looked at him as this genius. He was always telling me which books to read. He would say, 'Oh Jacky, you don't know this. Oh wait, wait, wait. Let me tell introduce you to this author, let me introduce you to this Science.' And things actually helped me in my life and changed my life in a way. The kind of things that he was teaching me about philosophy, about bio-hacking, things about improving my wellness and energy level," she said.

The Race 3 actress went on to open up about her anxiety issues. She revealed that when she mustered the courage to talk about it, people would rubbish it. "This happened to me a few years ago. I didn't understand what is happening. It had a great deal to do with my work. I didn't know what's happening. I was feeling very lost. You don't have anyone to turn to. When I was able to muster up the courage to talk about it to a few people, they would brush it aside. They would say, 'You can't be talking about something like that. You are being ungrateful. People like you who have enough can't be talking about stuff like that.' And that made me realise like they are right. I am completely able, I have what I need. I am healthy, I have enough, I have my family," she revealed.

"But still there were bouts, My chest would feel tight and I couldn't breathe. I kind of kept things to myself. I put myself into work and things kind of worked out. But recently, after Sushant's death, it was strange. I was contemplating on a lot of things. The anxiety, the tightness in the chest and the not being able to breathe properly, it just came flooding it. These are actually things only professionals maybe take you through," she added.

The Wikipedia article of the day for July 26, 2020 is Carlos Castillo Armas.
Carlos Castillo Armas (November 4, 1914 – July 26, 1957) was a military officer and the 28th president of Guatemala. He came to power in a 1954 coup d'état backed by the US Central Intelligence Agency that overthrew the democratically elected President Jacobo Árbenz, and consolidated his position in an October 1954 election in which he was the only candidate. A member of the right-wing National Liberation Movement party, he was also the first of a series of authoritarian rulers in Guatemala who were close allies of the United States. Under Castillo Armas, the reforms of the Guatemalan Revolution were largely undone. Land was confiscated from small farmers and returned to large landowners, and thousands of people were arrested, tortured, or killed under suspicion of being communists. In 1957 Castillo Armas was assassinated by a presidential guard. His policies sparked a series of leftist insurgencies culminating in the Guatemalan Civil War, which lasted from 1960 to 1996.

The Wikipedia article of the day for July 25, 2020 is Operation Cobra.
Operation Cobra was an offensive launched by the First United States Army under Omar Bradley against the German 7th Army commanded by Paul Hausser in the Cotentin Peninsula during the Normandy campaign of World War II. The attack commenced on 25 July 1944, having been delayed several times by poor weather. Supporting offensives had drawn the bulk of German armored reserves toward the British and Canadian sectors, and the lack of men and materiel available to the Germans meant they were unable to form successive lines of defense. After a slow start the offensive gathered momentum and by 27 July most organized resistance had been overcome and the Americans advanced rapidly. The German response was ineffectual and the entire Normandy front soon collapsed. Operation Cobra, together with concurrent offensives by the British Second Army and the Canadian First Army, was decisive in securing an Allied victory in the Normandy campaign and the loss of the German position in northwestern France.

It is still difficult to believe that Sushant Singh Rajput is no more. To talk about the actor in the past tense sends shivers down our spine every day. The actor died by suicide, as confirmed by police on 14 June 2020. He was found hanging by the ceiling in his apartment in Bandra by his house staff. After he passed away, his dog Fudge had been in the news as well. Undoubtedly, Fudge would be missing his father, Sushant. There were reports of Fudge searching for Sushant everywhere and crying while looking at his pictures on phone. Well, we hope Fudge's pain would be lessened now that he is home again. Yes, you read that right.

Sushant Singh Rajput's sister, Shweta Singh Kirti shared a picture on her Instagram handle. In the picture, we can see Fudge with Sushant's father. The actor's father is seen sitting in verandah and petting Fudge. Sushant was very fond of Fudge and had shared a lot of videos with him. We are glad that Fudge is at home now. A couple of days ago, Shweta had shared a video montage of Sushant. The actor was seen doing everything that he loved. His smile, his playful behaviour is being missed. He is being missed. "My Forever Star ? A pain so precious so close tat u wldnt trade the world for it!! A wound so deep, so grave you wouldn't and couldn't ever share it!" Shweta had expressed her grief in the caption.

Meanwhile, the actor's demise has triggered stoked the debate of nepotism more than ever. His fans are boycotting the industry and the so-called Bollywood mafias.

On the other hand, Sushant's last film, Dil Bechara will release today at 7:30 PM on the OTT platform. There was much anger about the film being released online as his fans wanted to see him on the big screen, one last time. Director Mukesh Chhabra had addressed the same while an exclusive interaction with BollywoodLife. "Do we know when the theatres are going to open? No, we don't. It might take more six months or even longer. There is no surety on that. Also, people are scared given how the pandemic is spreading. Good content will shine irrespective of the medium. OTT is the big thing now. Dil Bechara will reach a huge number of people via OTT and all I can say is that we have made the film with a lot of love. I am sure the film will strike a chord," he said.
