Sanjay Leela Bhansali was keen to make Gangubai with Priyanka Chopra Jonas but the filmmaker has changed his mind. Buzz is that Alia Bhatt is being considered for the titular role and we wouldn't be surprised if she bags the film. The actress was already on board for SLB's Inshallah with Salman Khan, which is now shelved. While the Dabangg actor has backed out of the film, Bhatt, on the other hand, is very much a part of Bhansali's ambitious project. Now, since Inshallah has been shelved, the filmmaker has shifted his focus to Gangubai - his another ambitious project. Yes, you read that right. And if a Mumbai Mirror report is to be believed, then Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety actor Kartik Aaryan is in running for the male lead of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's movie.
The Luka Chuppi star has been spotted at Sanjay Leela Bhansali's office which has added fuel to these rumours. Gangubai is based on a chapter from Hussain Zaidi's novel, Mafia Queens of Mumbai. The film primarily focuses on Gangubai Kothewali, the matriarch of Kamathipura. Talking about the female lead, SLB has apparently roped in Alia Bhatt for the role. This wasn't the case earlier though.
The filmmaker had approached Priyanka Chopra and they were in talks for the same. "I love the story, it's been with me for long and I'm keen to make the film. Priyanka and I are in talks," he was quoted as saying by the leading daily. However, when PeeCee was asked about the same recently, she had said, "I haven't signed a Hindi film yet I'm a fan of Sanjay Bhansali in whatever he makes, I'll always be his fan."
Guess, only time will tell who will end up doing this ambitious project of Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Until then, keep following this space for more scoops and updates.
