It is no secret that Indians as a race are obsessed with breasts. They have to be beautiful, healthy enough to nurture a child and most importantly be decently covered at all times. Women who just let their bodies exist without paying heed to the stigmas attached to them should be put to place. After all, many members of the moral policing brigade would be jobless otherwise. Recently, TV actresses Asha Negi and Devoleena Bhattacharjee faced the ire of trolls as they flaunted their bust a little more than what was expected of them. Asha wore a black sequinned outfit for the red carpet of a glamour event with a plunging neckline while Devoleena posed for a photo-shoot. It is no secret that some social media users tend to be more severe with TV actresses as they are expected to live up to a certain image. Both these gorgeous ladies were trolled for being not-so sanskari in real life.
Honestly, we fail to understand how people or fans still fail to distinguish between the onscreen and offscreen characters of actors. But that is not the question here. Both the actresses looked extremely pretty and have full right to exercise their choice of what they want to wear and what they want to flaunt. Most of the people who have tried to show the ladies their place are the same ones who are quite comfortable watching 'A' rated content on OTT platforms, films and on digital media. So, why the double standards for TV actresses? In the past, Nia Sharma and Sonarika Bhadoria have also been trolled badly for their provocative pictures. Is there a problem with how society perceives women? Yes. The issue is deep-rooted and it will take years for people to change their outlook. However, it is shocking that the supposedly educated social media users do not think twice before commenting on the objectionable stuff about a woman and her choices. While skimpy clothes have nothing to do with empowerment, respecting someone's choice is the first step ahead.
So, a flat-chested girl can surely wear a plunging neckline if she wishes to. After all, we see so many male actors flaunting their cleavage. No one finds anything objectionable there even if it's not so aesthetically pleasing. But a woman is pulled up at every juncture. Enough is enough.
