'I cooked food for the crew everyday on a chulha,' Bhumi Pednekar shares how she transformed into Indumati for Sonchiriya - watch EXCLUSIVE video

Sushant Singh Rajput and Bhumi Pednekar-starrer Sonchiriya is all set to release this Friday. Set in Chambal, in the 1970s, the film tells the tale of a gang of dacoits ruling the town during that time. Bhumi and Sushant engage in heavy-duty stunt and gun-fighting scenes, but you have to wait till Friday to see it. We know how our actors prep for such challenging roles and so was the case with Bhumi and SSR too. Both SSR and Bhumi had to get into the skin of their characters and so when we recently sat down for an exclusive conversation with the stars, they revealed how different it was to work on a film which is set in a different time milieu.

Since the film is set in the 1970s when Sushant and Bhumi were not even born, both the actors faced certain challenges. Bhumi revealed that she completely stepped in her character's shoes and took up all those things which Indumati (her character in the film) would do! The actress said, "I had really disconnected myself from my ecosystem in terms of the activities Bhumi would do. For two months, I was totally into my character and would do all those activities which my character would do. My whole workout routine changed according to her household chores. I also cooked food for the entire crew every day for a month. There was a chulha on which I cooked lunch with the help from AD. So grinding the spices to making kneading the dough formed a part of my daily workout routine."

Apart from daily routines, both Bhumi and Sushant also had to work on dialect, which both admitted was very difficult for them. When we asked Sushant about his prep for the role of Lakhna, the actor revealed that it took him four months to get into his character. "An actor, I use this trick, I invest a certain amount of time before commencing the shoot to into the character, like understanding mannerisms and nuances of my character," he revealed and a lot more. Check out the conversation here...

Sonchiriya is directed by Abhishek Chaubey, who previously helmed Udta Punjab and Dedh Ishqiya. Apart from Bhumi and Sushant, the film also stars Manoj Bajpayee, Ranvir Shorey and Ashutosh Rana in key roles, and is scheduled to hit the screens on March 1 and will lock horns with Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon's Luka Chuppi at the box office.
