Before Oscars 2019, here’s a look at the Academy Award winners for Best Picture of the last five years

The 91st Academy Awards takes place this weekend. The most prestigious award function of the year honours the best performance in different roles. From Best Actor to Best Actress, supporting actors and technical awards. But all eyes are usually set on the Best Picture Award winner. This year, eight movies are in the running for the Best Picture Award. This includes Black Panther, Vice, Green Book, A Star Is Born, The Favourite, Roma and BlackkKlansman. While we have to wait for The Academy to announce who will win the Best Picture Award at the Oscars 2019, we decided to take a quick walk down the memory lane to see the previous Best Picture winners.

Best Picture Award winner in 2018:

The Shape of Water won the Best Picture award last year. The movie not only took home the Best Picture, it also bagged the Academy Award for Best Original Music Score, Best Director and Best Production Design.

Best Picture Award winner in 2017:

Who can forget the 2017 Best Picture winner announcement? For a minute it was La La Land and in another it was Moonlight. But at the end of the night, The Academy confirmed that Moonlight won the award.

Best Picture Award winner in 2016:

In 2016, the spotlight was on Spotlight. The Tom McCarthy directorial starring Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Michael Keaton, Live Schreiber and John Slattery in the lead. The movie not only bagged Best Picture award, it also took home Best Writing, Original Screenplay award as well.

Best Picture Award winner in 2015:

2015 was the year when Birdman took over the Oscars and blew everyone s mind. The black comedy movie was nominated for several categories and took home four Academy awards Best Director, Best Writing, Original Screenplay and Best Achievement in Cinematography.

Best Picture Award winner in 2014:

12 Years a Slave made history in 2014. The movie became the first film by a black director to win the Best Picture Oscar award. The movie beat the likes of Gravity, The Wolf of Wall Street and American Hustle for the prize.
