Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan featured in a romantic saga titled 96 which went on to become one of the most liked films in Tamil cinema this year. Directed by debutante C Prem Kumar, 96 received rave reviews from audience and critics making it a hit film. as the film continued to have a great run, reports were doing rounds that the masterpiece will be remade in Telugu. Speculations were that the rights for the remake were bought by popular producer Dil Raju and he was trying to rope in top stars for it. However, the makers have announced the lead pair for the film. Sharwanand and Samantha Akkineni have been signed on to play the lead pair in the Telugu remake of 96 which was announced today. The remake will also be directed by Prem Kumar who helmed the original. The film is yet to be titled and the shooting of the will commence in March this year. Going by the trend, the yet untitled project may be scheduled for release in Dussehra.

96 was a romantic saga which, many said, takes you back in time and makes you nostalgic. The director, C Prem Kumar, was lauded for his sensitive narrative and realistic approach which left a great feel amongst audience. The music of 96 was composed by Govind Vasanth which was one of the most liked aspect of the film.
