Despite entering in its second week, Thalapathy Vijay's Sarkar is refusing to slow down at the box office. Apart from the domestic market, the political thriller set new benchmarks in the international markets, especially in Malaysia and America. The film has just crossed the $ 1 million mark in USA and has become the third film to achieve that feat after Theri (North America) and Mersal (USA). It has already crossed the Rs 200 crore mark at the global box office and has become the second Tamil film to do that after Rajinikanth's Kaala.
Apparently, the film had got 3500 screens and has been released across 80 countries, thus making it widest Tamil release ever. Though Akshay Kumar and Rajinikanth starrer 2.0 has reportedly broken the record with the whopping screen count of around 6000. As per the moviegoers, the commercial entertainer shows us the massy and swag avatar of Thalapathy Vijay. Our critic Gautham Pattikonda gave the film three stars and wrote, "Sarkar makes you walk out of the cinema hall thinking about how you can bring about change and director A.R.Murugadoss sends out a loud message about how change can begin with just one person. Sarkar, as is, is a powerful plot and Vijay effortlessly carries it till the end." The album of Sarkar is composed by Music Maestro and Academy Award winner AR Rahman. Talking about the film, the director had earlier said, After Thupakki and Kaththi, we wanted to give something new and better to the audience, and hence we came up with this film called Sarkar.
