The Bachelor's Colton Underwood on His Decision to Jump the Fence: I Needed 'Alone Time'

Colton Underwood is finally addressing his infamous fence jump.

Underwood opens up about the now infamous moment during Tuesday night’s The Bachelor: Women Tell All special — and PEOPLE has the exclusive sneak peek.

The ex-NFL player says he felt overwhelmed with emotion when he decided to quite literally run from the show.

“At what point did you actually think, ‘I’m done,’ ” host Chris Harrison asks.

“It was when I was walking up into the Fantasy Suite by myself,” Underwood replies. “Having the time to myself … I realized I’ve been pushed pretty hard. As much as I say this was the best thing for me, it was a challenge, too, at times. I would say having that alone time and realizing I needed more of it.”

Before hopping the fence, Underwood ripped off his microphone, making it nearly impossible for the crew to track him down as he ran down the street in Portugal in the middle of the night.

“The only way to get that way to say goodbye to you,” he adds.

Along with talking about the difficult moments that leading up to the finale episode of The Bachelor, Underwood also comes face-to-face with all the women he sent home.

Caelynn Miller-Keyes, who was sent home after hometowns, told PEOPLE she was nervous about seeing him again.

“I’m not fully over it,” Miller-Keyes said. “I’m still processing the heartbreak.”

The Bachelor: Women Tell All airs Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
