A new X-Men: Dark Phoenix trailer released today, and it gives us a better look at the upcoming X-Men movie. The 20th Century Fox movie was previously set to release in February, but it was pushed back to June. The new trailer comes months after - almost six months after to be precise, the first trailer had released. While the first trailer gave us glimpses of Sophie Turner s Jean Grey s past, the new trailer has given us a peek at Sophie s dark side. The video starts with Jean crying under the rain before she goes rogue. The trailer then goes on to reveal that Jennifer Lawrence s Mystique dies in an attempt to stop Jean down from going rogue, Entertainment Weekly confirms.
The trailer unfolds to show us Jean s powers. The trailer also gives us a look at James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicolas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Evan Peters. The movie will see the X-Men in "their most formidable and powerful foe when one of their own, Jean Grey, starts to spiral out of control. During a rescue mission in outer space, Jean is nearly killed when she's hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. The X-Men must now band together to save her soul and battle aliens that want to use Grey's new abilities to rule the galaxy."

Speaking about his decision to reveal the death, the director said, "The thought process behind that was to primarily show that this is a movie that is unlike other X-Men movies. It s a movie where shocking things happen, where intense, dramatic things happen. People don t just fall off buildings and dust themselves off and walk away. There s a reality to this movie and a consequence to this movie. Even more than that, it was to show that Jean/Dark Phoenix is genuinely a threat to everyone, including the X-Men."
