"We look dusty and burnt cause we were!" Bhumi Pednekar and Sushant Singh Rajput open up about shooting in Chambal for Sonchiriya - watch EXCLUSIVE video

It's true that it's only Monday but it's also true that we are waiting for the Friday to come bless. A filmy one that and fortunately, the coming one will take us back time! We are talking about Sushant Singh Rajput and Bhumi Pednekar's Sonchiriya. Shot in Chambal, the film is set in the 1970s, the 1975 Emergency, which affected Chambal to a great extent. Post that, it narrates the journey of all the rebels and dacoits, who fought with the police force. Also starring in the film are Manoj Bajpayee, Ranvir Shorey and Ashutosh Rana in key roles and we can't wait to see them fight it out in this intriguing, raw and rustic drama.

While it looks convincing to the T, it doesn't take rocket science to figure the efforts that went into making it appear the way it does. Which is exactly what we asked SSR and Bhumi when we sat with them for an exclusive sit down. When asked about the challenges of shooting under extreme conditions and in far-off places and if it was difficult, Sushant said, " Yeah, it is. Of course, when we sign a film, we already know it (the odds). But while we are shooting, all the extreme conditions that we are talking about actually help in portraying what we want to portray. So, it sets up everything. The line is the last thing that comes out. And since it's Chambal -- you see all these technologies coming but it still has retained its uniqueness -- we actually felt it."

When we asked Bhumi if it was the same for her, the actress stated, "I remember Chaubey sir (director) had told me categorically that 'This not a regular film. Yes, we will do prep but you really have to mentally and emotionally condition yourself to go through this experience.' So he had put us through a lot of preparation but when I actually reached Chambal, everything came into perspective. The environment is harsh, but the story is so humane. And as Sushant said, Chambai is a charaacter in the film. We look dusty and mucky and burnt (cause) we actually were."

Check out the video here.

Having said that, Sushant had a parting thought and added, "Since it was supposed to happen and we did it and it all came together, now we can all go watch it in air-conditioned theater (laughs).

The film is directed by Abhishek Chaubey, who previously helmed Udta Punjab and Dedh Ishqiya. The film is scheduled to hit the screens on March 1 and will lock horns with Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon's Luka Chuppi at the box office. Stay tuned to BL for more updates and scoops!
