'It's an absolute honour,' says Deepika Padukone as she becomes the new chairperson of MAMI film festival

Deepika Padukone has stepped into the shoes of Kiran Rao as the chairperson for MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. The Padmaavat actress' appointment came after the filmmaker stepped down from the position as she wanted to focus on a film project. According to a Mumbai Mirror report, a few days ago, board members of MAMI held a meeting wherein Deepika received the maximum number of votes. And was ultimately given the position. Deepika, who will now take forward the legacy of MAMI, told the tabloid, "It s an absolute honour and a huge responsibility. I believe in MAMI s vision and we are committed to creating a community that cinema lovers and creators of a film passionate nation like ours truly deserve."

Former chairperson of the festival, Kiran Rao also shared her thoughts to the tabloid. "It has been my privilege and pleasure to work as part of the core team of MAMI, and after four years as Chairperson of the Academy, I am delighted to welcome one of India s most loved film stars, Deepika Padukone as the new Chairperson. Deepika has been a supporter of the festival and part of our Board of Trustees and is a person whose ethos and work I greatly admire. I am sure that under her leadership the Academy will become stronger and more robust in serving the cinema community. I look forward to supporting her on this journey and wish her all the very best," she said.

Just like Kiran, Anupama Chopra, festival's director, stated she admires Deepika's work. And is now looking forward to working with and learning from the actress. If you recollect, a few days ago, pictures from MAMI's first board meeting had surfaced. And we think it was on the same day when DP was designated the post. We are so happy for the actress. Congratulations, Deepika!
